Decision To Leave

The movie lingers. By now Park has confirmed a track record – his proclivity towards mystifying enigmatic female lead characters. He has the tendency to over-indulge. He is smart but he’s blinded by romance.

I’m not sure I buy the love story. This impossible, love tension thing. (I don’t) But even as the credits roll, I already want to watch it again just so I can revisit the few beautifully-made scenes. I am riveted by independent moments that are so charged and precise.

By the power of the a story – telling, then living through it – or they are same thing, really – you get so mesmerised by the story world you’d rather choose to stay there until it’s finally time to leave. Isn’t that the thing about life and cinema, cinema and life?
